Red Hill Camp Park

Yiradhu marang - Yinaagalangbu, gibir-bangbu, wugalbu, migaybu. That means, hello ladies and gentlemen, young men and women. - Aunty Matilda House

Between 2016-2017, Action Heritage ran a community archaeology project that worked with senior Canberra Elders to promote a local park known as 'the last campsite of the Ngunnawal'. We ran an archaeological investigation and involved locals and kids in the dig and connected them in with the Indigenous history of their suburb. We recorded oral histories with the knowledge holders of the site, and ran a series of tours at the park featuring local Elders. After winning an ACT Heritage grant with the Canberra Archaeological Society, we installed interpretive signage in the park and nominated the site to the ACT Heritage register.

We acknowledge that we live and work on Ngunnawal, Ngunawal, Ngambri country, land that was never ceded and that remains sovereign. We pay our respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
